Why Upgrade to Digital?
As great as magnetic ballasts have been there are many reasons to upgrade to a digital ballast. They produce less heat, weigh less and are virtually silent unlike magnetic ballasts, meaning they can be mounted much easier, won’t give off as much heat as their magnetic counterparts (allowing you to add lights to your grow room) and remain incredibly discreet. Digital ballasts are more efficient, generating more lumens of light for the same power drawn, in comparison to a magnetic ballast of the same wattage, they also maintain peak performance even as the lamp ages. All these factors stack up to healthier plants with larger harvests, for a slight increase in initial outlay that will pay for itself in next to time.
How the Digidrive Digital 600w Ballast Works:
The Digidrive Digital Ballast converts mains electricity to the correct voltage and current to start-up and power a 250, 400, 600w HPS or MH lamps. By using the boost feature, you can achieve 660 watts of power, further pushing your plants to their full potential. It produces more lumen output, use less electricity and does not degrade with age like core and coil type magnetic ballasts, which become noisy, use more electricity and produce less lumens as they age. The Digidrive Digital Ballast features both short circuit safety protection, which protects your lamp and ballast in the event of a power spike or drop in energy supply and RF shielding technology, which protects against electrical interference from other electrical equipment.
How to Use the Digidrive Digital 600w Ballast:
Although this ballast runs fairly cool in use, it should still be located on a flat, firm, surface (not carpet) and in a well-ventilated location. It should never be covered and there should be no combustible items in the vicinity just in case. Connect the input lead of your reflector to the output lead of the ballast ensuring the cable is not pulled tight and does not come into contact with anything hot (e.g. lamp, reflector, ballast). Ensure your lamp is tightly screwed into the bulb-holder and that your reflector is at the correct height.
Use the power-output switch to select the desired output wattage. 250-watt lamps can only be used at 250 watts. 400-watt lamps can be used at 400 watts or turned down to 250 watts. 600-watt lamps can be used at 600 watts or turned down to 400 watts or 250 watts. The Digidrive 600w ballast can be used on the “overdrive” setting which increases the output by 10%, increasing the light produced by the lamp. Once the correct output wattage has been selected, connect the mains plug into an electrical outlet socket and switch on. The ballast will start-up and light the lamp.
